Madd Muttasil
Madd (Lengthening)
مد متصل
A madd letter followed by a hamzah in the same word, lengthened four to five counts and obligatory.
When it applies
- madd letter + ء in one word
How to pronounce it
Hold four to five counts consistently. Because the hamzah is in the same word, this length is compulsory — no shorter reading is permitted.
Worked examples
Each is cited so you can find it in the mushaf and check it yourself.
| Reference | Example | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 2:31 | هَؤُلَاءِ | Madd followed by hamzah in the same word. |
| 4:1 | وَنِسَاءً | Obligatory four to five counts. |
Common mistakes
- Reading it at two counts like a natural madd.
