Madd (Lengthening)
مد منفصل
A madd letter at the end of a word followed by a hamzah at the start of the next, lengthened two to five counts depending on the recitation style.
When it applies
- madd letter at word end + ء at next word start
How to pronounce it
Choose a length and keep it for the whole recitation. In Hafs it is commonly four or five counts, though two is permitted in some readings.

Common mistakes
