Madd (Lengthening)
مد لين
A waw or ya with sukun preceded by a fathah, lengthened two, four or six counts when stopping.
When it applies
- وْ or يْ after fathah
How to pronounce it
Only lengthened at a stop. The sound is soft rather than a full madd — the lips and tongue relax into it.

Common mistakes
- Lengthening while continuing rather than only at a stop.
- Hardening the waw or ya into a full consonant.
