Lesson length and why

Thirty minutes works at this age, and the lesson can carry a clear structure — review, new material, practice — because the child can now hold a sequence in mind.

Where most students start

Often part-way through a Qaida, or reading slowly with errors nobody has corrected. Some arrive having memorised surahs by ear without being able to read them.

What is expected at home

Parents are no longer needed in the room but should check the homework was done. Progress at this age tracks almost exactly with whether revision happens between lessons.

How long it takes

Hifz of Juz Amma typically runs 24–60 weeks at 2–5 lessons a week. The range is wide because it moves with revision between lessons more than with anything that happens in them.

What is covered

  1. 1Surahs An-Nas to An-Naba in order
  2. 2Meaning alongside memorisation
  3. 3Revision cycle
  4. 4Reciting in prayer

What usually gets in the way

Specific to children (ages 8–11) — these are the things that actually derail progress for this group.

  • Errors learned by ear that are hard to unlearn
  • Plateau after the initial fast progress
  • Competing with school homework

By the end

  • Juz 30 memorised
  • Enough surahs for a lifetime of salah
