Lesson length and why
Thirty minutes works at this age, and the lesson can carry a clear structure — review, new material, practice — because the child can now hold a sequence in mind.
Where most students start
Often part-way through a Qaida, or reading slowly with errors nobody has corrected. Some arrive having memorised surahs by ear without being able to read them.
What is expected at home
Parents are no longer needed in the room but should check the homework was done. Progress at this age tracks almost exactly with whether revision happens between lessons.
How long it takes
Beautiful Recitation (Tarteel) typically runs 16–40 weeks at 2–5 lessons a week. The range is wide because it moves with revision between lessons more than with anything that happens in them.
